Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

In Your House: Badd Blood · St. Louis, Missouri · October 5, 1997

The first-ever Hell in a Cell match saw Shawn Michaels defend himself against The Undertaker in one of the most iconic matches in WWE history.

Shawn Michaels won after Kane's debut interference

Michaels entered alongside Triple H and Chyna, carrying the WWF European Championship, while The Undertaker made his signature ominous entrance. Once the Cell door was chained shut, Michaels initially struggled against The Undertaker's dominance before fighting back with a series of brutal chair shots. Michaels attacked a cameraman and, when officials opened the door to take the cameraman out for medical assistance, escaped and climbed the Cell. The Undertaker followed him to the top, where the two continued their brutal battle. Michaels eventually fell from the Cell onto the commentary table below, bringing both competitors back toward the ring. Just as The Undertaker appeared ready to secure victory, the lights went out. Kane, accompanied by Paul Bearer, made his shocking WWF debut as The Undertaker's younger brother. Kane tore through the Cell door, attacked the referee, and unleashed his signature ring pyrotechnics before delivering a devastating Tombstone Piledriver to The Undertaker. Shawn Michaels capitalized and covered The Undertaker for the victory. The historic match not only established Hell in a Cell as one of WWE's most legendary stipulations but also began the unforgettable rivalry between The Undertaker and Kane, changing the landscape of WWF forever.
